The Recipient Committee of Adopt-a-Family continues to meet weekly to process applications submitted by Woonsocket families seeking help for the holidays. Family Resources Community Action located on Main Street in Woonsocket meets with and screens the applicants and passes the applications on to AAF.

Part of the application filled out by families is a section that asks "Why do you need this help?"

Here are a few examples of the needs expressed by our families:

I am a single mother of 5 children. I have one foster child that was very sick for a long time and I'm trying to adopt him. I am unemployed at the time and short on money.

I've been living from place to place. My daughter finally has a place to call her own but it's still tough.

Left my husband due to domestic violence. Now starting over in our own apartment, going back to school in November for nursing.

Head of household had received unemployment after losing job. Unemployment ended. Raising children on very limited income.

To date we have found donors for 584 families with over 1,200 children. The families must apply no later than November 19, 2010. We expect requests for help from 500-600 more families.
